Now that we’re well into the new year, it’s time to think about getting some new things set up for your own personal use at home. We’re talking home offices here. If you do a lot of your work at home, why not treat yourself so that you’re comfortable and overall pretty happy with where you work? You can even write off a lot of these things as business expenses on your taxes. Whoop whoop. Here are just a few essential items (and ideas) you should be going after for your updated office at home. Daylight So this may not always seem possible depending on where your office is in your home, but you need to make it possible: install windows if you have to. Daylight will directly boost your mood, meaning you’ll be more productive, less stressed, and happier all around to be working even though you’re at home. Say no to the dungeon office and yes to the bay windows. Hybrid standing desk Tell me you’ve seen these things. They’re amazing. Whether you need to sit most of the day or stand at times, these desks transition seamlessly from one style to the other. Standing desks are particularly good for your health too because you shouldn’t be sitting hunched over all day in a chair. By standing an hour or 2 a day (to the other 5 or 6 you’re sitting), you’ll increase blood flow, attention span, posture, and energy. What a way to keep yourself efficient and working. A comfortable computer chair They say your mattress and shoes are two of the most important things to make sure you’re comfortable in to increase your lifespan. Well, if you work at home or do a lot of your work at home, investing in a nice computer chair is absolutely essential for the health of your back and neck. Don’t be cheap when it comes to getting a nice chair. Get the one that you feel is absolutely for you. A nice computer
No duh, right? But seriously. Having some sort of cheap notebook or an outdated desktop computer severely hampers your progress working. If you have to constantly restart your computer, unjam the keys, delete memory to make room for other files, or your monitor is displaying random colors in certain parts of the screen, t’s time you get that computer you’ve been eyeing for the last few years. You’ll feel much more productive and likely be a lot more efficient at what you’re doing on your computer, meaning you’re literally saving time with certain tasks.

Being able to use one item in a multitude of ways communicates value in a purchased product, and you really feel like you got your money’s worth if you’re able to use the thing you just spent a lot of cash on in more than one simple way. (It makes you feel a little bit better, at least.) Decorating your home is no different. And having useful tools within your home is just the same. You want versatile, useful, and interesting things in your house that you can use for not just one reason, but multiple. Check out these things that you didn’t know you’ve been missing out on for your home. Bay windowsBay windows are seriously some of the coolest things a home can add without committing to a huge new addition to the house. It gives an entirely new look inside and outside of your house without breaking the bank or taking a serious amount of dedication. Your kids will love one, too, if you install a bay window simply because most can be used as little reading nooks. And if you don’t have kids, use the space for different plants, cushions, and other decorations to fill the space. The large amount of exposure plants will get to sunlight will really help them thrive in your home. Home entertainment systemYes, we know a decent amount of people have these, but do you? And don’t say you have one of these unless it’s a true entertainment system. A small stand with less than 4 shelves doesn’t suffice. Why? Because you’re shorting yourself of a truly amazing piece of furniture that accentuates a room well while also housing so many different decorations, books, tech, and other things outside of your amazing HDTV. OttomanGrowing up, I found these things amazing. As a kid I would ride around on it with my brother pushing me from behind.
Okay, I know that’s not the main (or even secondary use) for an ottoman, but it serves to highlight just how versatile these things are. With that said, these are so perfect for storage. Blankets, pillows, slippers, and even chargers for your technology can be stored within your ottoman. If that’s not enough for how great these are, they’re the perfect footrests and extensions to your furniture without having to spend more for a chase when you foot the bill for your brand new couch. |
